Li Chuan’s Past (沥川往事) : Chapter 8

yunnangqmx

If you haven’t had Yunnan Crossing the Bridge Noodles (云南过桥米线), please try them. They are my favorite type of noodles and I have, sadly, yet to find a good authentic place near where I live now. It made me pretty happy to see them appear so many times in this novel…It also resulted in a hangry translator…But, if you are anywhere near a Yunnan restaurant offering them, or Yunnan itself, I urge you to go as soon as possible. You won’t regret it.

Anyway, I digress…

It’s clear that Li Chuan is a very private person who doesn’t let his guard down easily. But here comes a high-spirited Xiao Qiu who isn’t afraid to poke of him, to stand her ground against him, and to love him despite his disability. Resulting in him letting her into his life and his heart.

As promised, things speed up and start getting hotter in this chapter. Honestly, I was completely surprised the first time I read the novel. Did not expect things would move so fast. How many times had Li Chuan and Xiao Qiu interacted with each other before this chapter? Who knew an invitation to go swimming would turn into something else entirely? 😉

Phew…this was the longest chapter yet. It’s clear, in this chapter, that Li Chuan has feelings for Xiao Qiu and vice versa. Of course it helps that he takes the initiative…a lot. 😀 Things will be heading down the fast track soon after this chapter, hold on tight.

Li Chuan’s Past (沥川往事) : Chapter 6

buildingsA big secret is revealed. Unfortunately, the novel is from Xiao Qiu’s point of view and we can’t really see what Li Chuan is thinking. For that matter, Xiao Qiu’s feelings are already hard to discern. It’s clear she’s slowly falling for this handsome gentleman, but her personality is quite different from someone like Xiao Ye and her feelings are mainly kept inside.

Upon watching trailers again, I can’t help but feel the drama is going to disappoint. No one can compare to the Li Chuan already formed in my head, though I’m sure Godfrey Gao will give him a run for his money. Just being prepared is all…

Li Chuan’s Past (沥川往事) : Chapter 5

movieandpopcornAnd so it begins. There’s considerably more of Li Chuan in this chapter which makes me happy. The relationship between them is definitely a slow start. In fact, I’m still a bit confused on where exactly the two of them started actually liking each other. I can’t quite tell what Xiao Qiu feelings were in this chapter. Was it just to get back at Xiao Ye, or did she really want to spend time with Li Chuan? I mean…spending time with him is never not a good thing…

The actual English in this chapter is also a little iffy. I left it all in, though was very tempted to change it…

Li Chuan’s Past (沥川往事) : Chapter 4

I love it when the female lead has a back bone and is her own person. Xiao Qiu does not disappoint in this chapter, and her reactions are swift and decisive. I am certain this is also partly what Li Chuan saw in her. I really hope the drama will keep that aspect of her in it. I don’t want to have my hopes up though, I don’t find the lead actress to really fit what I had imagined…On the other hand, I can always read the novel again. And you can too!

Xiao Qiu and Li Chuan are finally getting to spend some time together. At this point, I marveled at how lucky she was that he took notice of her. This gentleman will gradually start to permeate her life from this moment on.

Whoot! Xiao Qiu takes her first look at Li Chuan in this chapter and boy is she stunned. Take note of what he’s wearing. It’s not too important but does come up much much much later. Don’t worry, I will remind you. 🙂 I really hope I managed to translate how he looks properly. So afraid of not being able to embody everything in the Chinese meaning, especially in later chapters.

The lead female character Xiao Qiu (小秋) gets settled into the big city and is inching closer to meeting our handsome male lead in this first chapter. While not much happens in this chapter, it’s a great introduction to what kind of person the female lead is through her actions and conversations with others. She doesn’t look for trouble, but is also someone who won’t easily back down. It’s why I’m not only fond of the male lead, but also the female lead. She’s not the typical super headstrong female lead nor the one who always needs to depend on a man. This sets her up quite nicely with the male lead, in my opinion. Read more

Intro & Li Chuan’s Past (沥川往事) – Xuan Yin (玄隐) : Summary

books I recently started reading Chinese internet novels and have become an addict. My English reading speed can be considered above average, but Chinese…not so much. After reading Li Chuan’s Past (沥川往事) and discovering that the series has already been filmed, I decided I needed an English version so that I can quickly flip back and read it over and over again before the series is officially released. I always love reading more than watching, so I am determined to get this done before the series airs (hopefully!)

Maybe it’s the handsomeness of Li Chuan, or the way he takes care of her, or the love between them, or so many other things about this story…but I fell for this story and wanted to share it with everyone who can’t read Chinese. He’s rich and handsome with one imperfection. She’s a country girl thrown into the big city. It’s a love story (of course) between the two, attempting to overcome the harsh realities of what life has dealt. They are separated as a result of a big secret and six years pass before they meet again. While their love remains, six years can really change a person. Especially one who was given no explanation as to why she had been left behind.

The drama version is called Remembering Li Chuan (遇见王沥川) starring Godfrey Gao (高以翔), who is pretty much perfect for the role. In terms of looks, anyway. We’ll see about the acting…for now, am enjoying the prettiness. I’m not going to post a picture of it yet (you can go google it if you want) because I like forming an image in my head through the novels’ descriptions before having someone else cementing a picture for me. Just from the trailers that have been out for quite awhile now, there are a couple of glaring differences between the series and the novel. Hopefully, the meat of it will stay true to the novel. We’ll see when it airs, which is who-knows-when. It was originally slated to air last year, but seems to have been delayed and has no new air date. Hopefully, that allows me to pace myself. I read the entire novel in a day and a half… I’ve done a fair share of translations in the past, but it’s been awhile since I did any translations and I’m not too used to editing my own translations, so please feel free to point out any errors.

Without further ado…
