I looked up better nuts and found them very familiar looking. Every South Asian family eats these especially the elders. I sometimes have it when I feel sick but it tastes eh so I don’t like it. But elders eat these so much that tooth decay and red gums/mouths happen. We have some at home.

oh great, they give up lung cancer, only to flirt with oral cancer 🙁 honestly why can’t they be like Ji Bai in WASL and just have some dates….or just try some nicotine patches. anything except these seriously unhealthy stuff. It’s such a turn off. Every time I read a chapter I have to consciously force myself to ignore the smoking references :/

I looked up Betel Nuts, so I thought I would share. I didn’t know what they were used for so I hope no one minds me doing this.

The consumption has many harmful effects on health and is carcinogenic to humans. Various compounds present in the nut, most importantly arecoline (the primary psychoactive ingredient which is similar to nicotine), contribute to histologic changes in the oral mucosa. As with chewing tobacco, its use is discouraged by preventive efforts.
