Chapter 102: Fall Into My Trap Part 4

With such a big case at hand, everybody is prepared to be in a long battle.  It’s nighttime. Han Chen gathers everyone to briefly summarize their findings and is going to call it a day.

Su Mian talks about the profiles while Xu Nan Bai adds his comments wherever it’s needed.  Everybody listens attentively in a rather excited atmosphere.

Cold Face explains the geographical findings briefly and has confirmed a few areas.

And then it’s Xu Si Bai.

As he summarizes his findings concisely, everybody nods and shows admiration just like Su Mian did before.  Xu Nan Bai nods slightly as well, “Forensic Investigator Xu sure lives up to his reputation.”

Xu Si Bai doesn’t show much of a reaction to everybody’s praises.  He continues to sit quietly. Han Chen, on the other hand, doesn’t say too much, he simply nods and comments, “This is very valuable.  You’ve worked hard.” Read more

When they were at Jiangcheng, she investigated the case while he examined the bodies and gave her very valuable conclusions just like this.  And in this big case with a massive amount of dead bodies, it showcases his talent clearly. His remarkably professional findings make her criminal psychology profiles even more complete.

She continues to flip through the photos enthusiastically of the victims with their hearts extracted.  Although they’re a bit gross, it’s just like how he said it; the cuts are done perfectly……And Xu Si Bai is sitting beside her quietly.

Chapter 100: Fall Into My Trap Part 2

Su Mian snatches his sketch and examines it closely.

Xu Si Bai stares at her fair white cheeks with a hint of pink.  Her eyes are wide open, making her black pupils look even shinier.  She’s just as dazzling as he remembers her. He puts the pencil down subconsciously.  He can’t help but feel attracted to her. He reaches out his arm to put it behind her chair and then leans a bit closer to her.

But just from his subtle movements, an invisible wall seems to rise around her whole body.  The wall has another man’s name engraved on it, blocking him away easily.

He hears that they’re already living together.

Chapter 99: Fall Into My Trap Part 1

It’s already 3 to 4 pm in the afternoon.  The sunlight penetrates into the room from all angles, brightening this spacious and quiet area.  Su Mian is sitting behind the computer while peeking at the others.

Probably due to being a little tired, Xu Nan Bai, who’s across from her, is leaning against his chair with both arms behind his head and resting with his eyes closed.  Not far away, Chatterbox, Xiao Zhuan, and Han Chen……are all busying themselves. A kind of tense yet peaceful atmosphere permeates the entire room.

Seeing that no one is around her, she enters her password on the computer and goes into the backend of their work system.  A monitoring program has been installed earlier to record and track everybody’s usage. Read more

Chapter 98: Three Person from Day Till Night Part 2

Xu Nan Bai shows an intrigued expression as he listens attentively.

“Whether it’s the choice of victims, the method of the explosion, or the location, we can clearly see this trait.  Not only are targeted individuals killed, innocent civilians are also killed. Among them are both young and the elderly; male and female.  There are no connections or patterns, showing rather a randomness in choices. He changed his method of explosion and location many times, and this was definitely not a criterion from the criminal organization.  It feels as if he was constantly trying new things, and as if he takes this murdering act as a game.”

Chapter 97: Three Person from Day Till Night Part 1

At the provincial public security bureau, besides the main office building, there are also an archives building, forensic building, criminal research building and other small buildings.  The trees create canopies everywhere; tidy and solemn.

And at a corner about a couple hundred of meters away from the main building, there is a two-story white building.  From the outside, it’s simple and ordinary looking. It’s usually used as a storage.

Chapter 96: After a Bloody Battle Part 2

Morning of next day.

The sun is shining brightly accompanied by a subtle breeze.  The humidifier by the window is blowing light mist, making the morning look beautiful and quiet.

The moment Su Mian walks into the office, she sees someone already sitting at her desk.

It’s Xu Si Bai.

He’s wearing his usual brown colored jacket, white shirt, and casual pants.  He’s leaning against the chair and reading one of her books. Behind him, Xiao Yao is chatting with Xiao Zhuan.

Chapter 95: After a Bloody Battle Part 1

It’s very late at night.

Su Mian is sitting in the study room by herself staring at the file in front of her.

It’s the file that Han Chen got from the Chief today, which is the big case from five years ago.  And these are the most detailed information that they can retrieve. Han Chen has already read through them; she hasn’t though.

She takes a deep breath and opens the file.  The title in black color causes her to be stunned slightly.

“4.20 Massive Serial Killing Case Condensed Records——Public Security Bureau 2009 No. 001 File”

Although it’s labeled as “condensed records,” it’s a very thick file.

Chapter 94: Imperial Sword

Monday of next week.

Su Mian walks into the office and sees that Xiao Zhuan and the others have already arrived.  It’s not time for work yet. Xiao Zhuan’s mouth is stuffed with a pork bun; Cold Face is standing by his desk expressionlessly while pouring himself a cup of scented tea; Chatterbox is flipping through his newspapers noisily.

It has only been a few days that they haven’t seen each other, yet this ordinary scene makes her feel warm and familiar.  It’s actually not just Han Chen that she has.

She still has them.  She still has everybody from Guanhu station and her fellow buddies from her current criminal investigation team.

She walks over feeling a bit depressed.  But what’s there to be sad about!?

She flings a couple of bags of roasted duck onto Xiao Zhuan’s table and says aloud, “Oh, what are these goodies?” Read more

The night is hazy and the lamps by the lakeside are like bright shining pearls.

The three men stare at each other quietly.  Da Wei finally speaks incompetently, “Chen Er, if the woman we saw today is Su Mian……either you let her be punished by the law!  Or……take her away and disappear forever! We’ll pretend that we never met her today and we won’t tell anyone!”

Monkey nods furiously.  Their eyes are red as they stare at Han Chen.

But Han Chen lowers his head slightly.  The subtle light from the lake surface reflects on his face.  His voice is full of determination, “There’s no need. She’s not a serial killer.  We’ll unveil the truth about the incident back then.” Read more
