Chapter 52: Pure and Passionate Love (2 of 2)

Criminal investigators often have to rush to the scene of the crime as well as working late at the office.  Therefore, they always keep spare clothes to change into.  He usually probably goes to Cold Face’s or Chatterbox’s dorm room to take a shower, but he has come to her place today.

The moment he walks in, he pauses.  He looks around like he’s appraising her tiny place.  Jin Xi wants to cry in her heart.  She dashes in front of him quickly and starts grabbing her underwears and socks on the sofa, the several packs of pads and the half eaten bag of plums on the table……etcetera.  After she fetches them all, she stuffs them into a drawer.  She turns around and looks at him like nothing happened, “Go take a shower.  There are body wash and shampoo inside.”

Chapter 52: Pure and Passionate Love (1 of 2)

“The killer drove an SUV to the scene to abandon the body;

He dropped the body here so that the police could find it;

The one thing that’s missing is the victim’s purse.”

After Han Chen finishes saying these three points, Qin Wen Long and Bai Jin Xi are both quiet.

Jin Xi stares at the side of his face.  She understands the second and third points instantly.  The black plastic bag contains many items, but there is no purse——which white-collar office lady would not carry a purse?

When she was observing the landscape with Han Chen just now, they noticed that the location of the body was not far away from the road.  The killer could have hidden the body deeper in the woods or behind the hill by walking a short distance.  But the killer didn’t.  This means that he was hoping that the body would be found quickly.

Chapter 51: Mentally Ill

2pm in the afternoon.

Not a single car can be seen on this quiet road.  Only a couple of police cars is parked on the grass area beside the road.

Jin Xi follows Han Chen and the others out of the car.  She raises her head and sees the sunlight shining through the thick canopy of trees.  The ground is also covered with many weeds and bushes.

The group walks past the yellow tape, and an office comes and hands them gloves and shoe covers.  Jin Xi puts them on, turns around and sees Han Chen fetching his black gloves and putting them on.

His hands are lean and bony.  Once he puts the black gloves on, his character feels even more prominent.  Jin Xi has admired these gloves for a long time, and now she can actually express her feelings outright!  When nobody notices, she comes close to his side and says in a low voice, “Hey, I want a pair of these gloves too.”

Han Chen is just in the middle of pulling his left hand’s glove tight with his right hand.  After hearing her words, he continues fixing his gloves without even lifting an eyebrow.

Chapter 50: Hand in Hand (2 of 2)

When the car is near the station, Jin Xi pats Han Chen’s hand, “I’ll get off here and walk over.”

Han Chen places both of hands on the steering wheel and says without raising an eyebrow, “Come with me directly.  I’ll let our superiors know.”

There’s no way that Jin Xi would be willing to let him do that!  She knows that Han Chen isn’t trying to be high-profile about this, but he’s used to having everything his own way, so since he has found his fiancée, he doesn’t care about others or anything else.

But she cares.  She doesn’t want to be the subject of discussion.  If they can avoid such troubles, why not avoid it?

Therefore, she turns her head and looks at him directly, “Han Chen, promise me.  Let’s keep this a secret for the time being.  We’ve just gotten together, so why cause a riot to bother us?  I’ve already told Xiao Zhuan to keep his mouth shut, so don’t tell anyone else today.”

In the classroom, the ceiling fan is spinning and humming above their heads.

This class is about Maoism.  Just like the majority of the guys in the class, Jin Xi is sleeping with her head down on her desk.  Someone pokes her arm, “Hey Beauty, Gao Han, the most handsome guy in the 4th class, asked me to give you his love letter.  Hurry and read it!”

Jin Xi is in a bit of a daze from napping.  She answers crisply, “Tell him to get lost.  Miss Beauty here is already taken.”

The classroom falls into complete quietness.  Their professor is also struck dumb.

Then follows by the thunderous sound of laughter!

Chapter 49: The Everyday Life of Living Together (2 of 2)

It’s quite crowded at the supermarket in the afternoon.  Jin Xi is pushing a shopping cart while Han Chen’s hand is on her waist.

There are too many things that they need to buy: new bedspread, duvet cover, slippers, bucket, shampoo, bathing soap……Why can’t she just bring everything from her dormitory?  It’s because Jin Xi has a plan in mind: for one, she can go back to her dormitory anytime and hide the fact that she is living together with Han Chen; secondly, this decision was made too hastily, so if she’s not happy with living with him, she can just turn around and go back to her dormitory.

While she picks up the things to buy, Han Chen accompanies her quietly this whole time.  At most, he raises his arm to stop her occasionally, “I have this at home.  You don’t need to buy it.”

“Oh, okay.”

The shopping cart is soon stuffed with items.

Han Chen has waited for this day to come for too long.  He also guessed long ago that Bai Jin Xi was his fiancée.

The sound of water coming from the bathroom continues.  Jin Xi is sitting on the sofa with her arms wrapped around her legs and staring at this unfamiliar man’s home.  She falls into a trance.

The mountain range is at a distance.  The extensive city landscape stretches out from the edge of the Yangtze river; its prosperity carries a sense of age from vicissitude.

Han Chen is at a coffee shop at the end of a street, which is where he is meeting Zhao Zi Xu.

Just like in the photo of class 56, Zhao Zi Xu is a tall and handsome man.  His facial features are symmetrical.  He is wearing a simple shirt and long pants.  He looks at Han Chen and reveals a peaceful smile, “Hello.  You are a colleague of Xiao Xi?”

Han Chen nods, “Do you mind if I smoke?”

“Not at all.  I smoke as well.”
