A Slight Smile is Very Charming (微微一笑很倾城) : Part 20

Part 20: I Know

For all 20 years of Wei Wei’s life, it’s the first time she realizes that she is an alien – –

An alien from the turtle planet to add to it.

A turtian is someone who ducks and turns away when they are provoked; the bottom line is: another two days have passed, and she still hasn’t logged into the game!!!!!

……

……

She must have been overtaken by the “abashed” planet aliens = =

Sigh~~~

Based on the facts, she already understands her feelings, and what she should do next is to rush to the game and try all obvious and subtle methods to win over the Great Master’s heart.  After all, she and the Great Master are both not married yet, so there isn’t anything to worry about~~ (Wei Wei knows that the Great Master is single from a long time ago because for one, YuGong and the others tease him by calling him ten thousand years bachelor, and secondly, Wei Wei has asked him before marrying him last time.  She didn’t have any motives for asking him at the time; it was more for the sake of morality.  Even though it’s a game, she doesn’t want someone’s girlfriend or fiancee to have any issues with it.”

But she just won’t go online.  Instead, she’s doing weird things like replaying the Great Master’s dialogue in the video over and over again……

Wei Wei is also surprised by her own strange behaviour, but she’s rather carefree and quickly thinks of an excuse for herself—–It’s her first time falling in love, so it’s normal to act strange.  It’ll be stranger if she doesn’t.

>_<

Therefore, she continues to be weird.  She promises herself every morning that she will definitely go online, but she consoles herself at night saying that she will go online tomorrow……

After swaying back and forth for two days, she can’t stand it anymore and has finally made up her mind!

Saturday!

After finishing her level 6th exam on Saturday, she will go online immediately!

It’s a great plan, but if everything always works out like you expected, that will not call life.  In the afternoon of Friday, an unexpected phone call rings Wei Wei out of her turtle shell.

The dorm room phone rings, Xiao Ling picks it up first, and then brings it to Wei Wei.  The person on the other line says politely, “May I ask if this is Miss Bei Wei Wei?”

“Yes, and you are?”

“Hello, Miss Bei.  This is Feng Teng (Soaring Wind) Corporation’s operational department for ‘Dream Voyage in Rivers and Lakes’……”

After that, Wei Wei’s eyes are spinning with dollar signs as fortune knocks on her head for the first time in life.

The person on the other line explains that a higher-up person in the company saw her submitted video and felt that it was moving and very well made, so they want to use it as a promotional video on their official website.  Additionally, they want to add more features to the gameplay for kidnapping the bride/groom, therefore, they want to buy the rights of her video.

Wei Wei grasps the phone in shock and excitement while she tries to think rationally if this is fake or for real.  It’s probably for real; there’s no benefit to swindle someone for this.  It’s not surprising that the gaming company knows her contact number since she filled out the signup form with real information to avoid others from stealing her account.

After the person finishes explaining, Wei Wei suppresses her excitement and says calmly, “Can I give you an answer later?  I didn’t make the video by myself, so I need to ask my friends’ opinions.”

The moment Wei Wei hangs up, she dashes to log in online.  Her friends list blinks crazily.  Click, click, click.  She opens them one after another; they’re all messages from her friends asking how she has been.  Wei Wei’s hand freezes after clicking on over ten of them.

The last message is from NaiHe.

It’s from just now; almost from the exact same time as she logged in.  A few words are written in the message.

“Wei Wei, come over.”

Couples just need to click to use their “Together in Life and Death” ability and they’ll be warped to their spouse’s side in an instant.  Wei Wei doesn’t move after reading the message; the feeling of excitement subsides, and she suddenly feels nervous.

Another new message arrives on the sound of “ding.”  Wei Wei opens it while feeling more and more nervous.  She lets out a breath of relief after seeing the sender.  It’s not NaiHe.  It’s YuGong.

YuGong: “Third sister-in-law, I’m terribly sorry.  Just beat me to death!”

His message is much easier to reply to, so Wei Wei asks: “What happened?”

YuGong sends a crying smiley: “I was the one driving after the dinner gathering, and we had an accident!”

The news pinches Wei Wei’s heart.  A car accident?!  Her heart pounds heavily, and her face is pale.  She can’t react until a few seconds later; since they’re online now, it probably means that they’re okay.  But Wei Wei’s heart beats even quicker.  She replies after a moment: “You guys are okay, right?”

“We’re fine.  We hit a tree.  Third brother was sitting on the passenger side and was injured more heavily.  He fainted and was unconscious for a few hours, but woke up in the middle of the night.”

Wei Wei sends a string of exclamation marks angrily: “!!!!!!”

What do you mean he fainted for a few hours?  YuGong, you pig head!

Without any hesitation, she immediately uses the couples’ ability and goes to NaiHe.

NaiHe is standing alone on Sunset Summit.

Wei Wei isn’t in the mood to admire the scenery of the white robed musician resonating with the sunset.  She quickly types the line: “Why are you still playing online and not taking a rest?”

NaiHe seems to be a little startled, but replies her after a minute: “I’m fine now.”

“……You still shouldn’t be playing online.  It takes too much concentration.”

“I’m not playing.  I’m only signing in and letting it sit in the background.”

Signing in and letting it sit in the background……

How come he sent her a message the moment she logged in then?  Wei Wei wants to talk back, but for some reason, she doesn’t and asks instead: “Do you still feel dizzy?”

“Not anymore.”  NaiHe continues: “Sorry for not showing up that day.”

“That’s a small matter – -”

It’s not even worth a penny compared to a car accident, okay?

Now that he mentions the couples PK competition, Wei Wei remembers that she hasn’t been online for a few days.  Could NaiHe have mistaken her for being angry?  Eh, she is definitely not angry, but the reason why she hasn’t been online……

Wei Wei feels a little guilty, but tries to cover it up: “I’m having an exam soon, so I haven’t been online lately.”

NaiHe pauses for a second, and then says: “I know.”

Wei Wei’s face immediately turns red in front of the computer.

You know?~~

You don’t know!

Wei Wei thinks silently in her head.  She stares at the white robed musician and feels sweetness and bitterness in her heart at the same time.  After a while, she feels that those two simple words from NaiHe contain boundless meanings……Her heart is suddenly filled with all kinds of emotions, which to her surprise, includes the sense of joy from their reunion as well as happiness from regaining something that was lost.

Wei Wei tries hard to control her emotions and finally remembers why she is online.  She quickly tells him that Feng Teng contacted her about buying the rights to their video.  NaiHe listens attentively as he waits for her to finish, and then says: “This matter is a little complicated.”

“Ah, really?”  Complicated?  Wei Wei is a bit confused.

“Yes.”  A short and firm reply.  NaiHe then says casually: “Let’s meet up.”

  2. Feng Teng? Feng Teng? Ahhhh… my book boyfriend. I miss reading about you. Might have to go and reread about Shan Shan and Feng Teng.

  3. OMG, finally! Although I’ve been enjoying everything so far, it is about time for them to interact face-to-face. She won’t have a screen to hide behind so it’s going to be so hard for her to talk properly lol
