Chapter 4: First Dream

Zhou Xiao Zhuan finds Si Si in a small alley.

In a curvy alleyway in an old city, there’s an easy to miss little store piled with many groceries and snacks.  Si Si is wearing a simple t-shirt and jeans, without any makeup, and sitting by the cash register.  If you don’t look carefully, you wouldn’t be able to recognize her as the enchanting woman at night.

This is a rather surprise to Zhou Xiao Zhuan.

There are quite a few nightclub mistresses who have a secondary job, but most of them are in sales, models for auto shows, or are still university students.  He has never seen one who opens a small store to make a living. Read more

Chapter 3: Forensic Investigator Si Bai

Bai Jin Xi is sitting at her desk with a serious expression as her mind is engulfed in deep thoughts.

It’s time for work.  An officer walks in and pats her head on the way, “Xiao Bai, what are you thinking about?  You can’t remember what you had for breakfast again?”

Everyone starts laughing right after his comment.  Bai Jin Xi glares at the person, “Get lost!”

The bell rings to signal the start of work; everyone gets back to their own seats.

There hasn’t been anything big going on recently, just a few small cases: household registration management, safety and hazard disputes, theft, and young women reporting that they have been stalked and harassed……In comparison, the criminal investigators are rather free with not much to do.

Chapter 2: Underhanded Tricks

6 o’clock in the morning.  Bai Jin Xi opens her eyes.

A greyish white ceiling is in view, and she can hear the fan blowing in the corner.  A couple of simple but warm hued furniture bathe in the sunlight.  A common houseleek sits on the window sill; quietly growing with jade green leaves.

Bai Jin Xi presses her hand to her forehead to make herself more awake, and then sits up on the bed.

She is strongly addicted to smoking, but worries that her teeth and fingers will turn yellow.  She contemplates for a bit as usual before she takes out a cigarette from the box on the table.  She begins smoking while sitting in bed.

However, before you start reading, we’d just like to warn you that this is a pilot chapter and we’re still unsure of whether this is the novel that we will be going on with — especially considering the length of this novel (162 chapters + side stores).
